CHAPTER EIGHT

I continued to work on marketing strategies to bring in new clientele for the ranch as Claude and Johnny worked with Uncle Sledge in the layout of the new facilities we were adding to the Ranch. Uncle Sledge decided to bring in one of the local architects to help with the blue prints. I was excited about being a part of something. Not just anything… a family business; something that would be handed down for generations to come. For the life of me I don’t know why my father wanted nothing to do with the ranch, but I guess everyone is not cut out for this sort of business.

Tonight was the town hall meeting and as before, we all attended. Only this time Uncle Sledge and Auntie Annie had planned on sharing their news with the town. We were also expecting the owner of Urban Developers to attend the meeting. Whispers about the meeting were heard all over town. I went into the grocery store and a woman said she heard that Donald Trump was behind Urban Development and he was attending the meeting tonight. I heard someone else say Warren Buffett was in town for the meeting. These locals have nothing to do but to make up wild stories about something as simple as a meeting… Donald Trump… Warren Buffett… really??? But what do I know… we will see tonight.

The town meeting consisted of the same folks as before. The two representatives from Urban Development and they didn’t have any new updates outside of the fact that they were going forward with their plans. The same folks voiced their feelings and honestly, everything seem so pointless to me. All wasn’t bad… uncle shared his news about expanding his business and how it would bring in more jobs and the locals got really excited. There weren’t many steady jobs offered in Winooski, so this expansion meant a lot to them. It also made me feel all warm inside as I watched their reaction. An hour later Uncle was still answering questions by some of the locals that stayed behind. They were already putting their bid in for a position on the ranch. Finally, auntie told everyone they all will be notified once the hiring selections started. With that we were able to call it an evening.

I made my way to my special area to get a little reading in and rest under the tree at the creek. To my surprise, I found a topless Johnny there sunbathing. He was definitely a sight for sore eyes. I guess I could get caught up later on my reading as I ogled over Johnny well chiseled chest. With Johnny being so busy with the building of their new home, we didn’t spend a lot of time together. When he got home, most of the time it was after dinner and he was always tired. He made a point to kiss my forehead before crashing for the remainder of each evening. I didn’t mind… in a way I felt good just to have him come home to me every night.
